California company recalls frozen ground

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of 153,630 pounds of frozen ground beef due to possible bacterial contamination.

The FSIS said S&S Foods LLC. of Azusa, Calif., is recalling the beef products because they might be contaminated with E. coli.

Being recalled are 30-pound boxes labeled "742798 MFST, 100 percent ground beef bulk, 80/20, 1lb. brick" and include the case code beginning "06238" printed on the side. The boxes, intended for food service and institutional use, were shipped to distribution centers in Allentown, Pa.; and Milwaukee.

The FSIS said it has received 11 reports of illnesses associated with consumption of the ground beef.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact the company at 626-625-2039.
