California cops nabbed on Mexican charges
TIJUANA, Mexico, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Two Northern California policemen were arrested in Tijuana after being caught with firearms and 6,000 rounds of ammunition, Mexican authorities said.
The officers, Hermonegenes Llanos and Jorge Luis Matos, are from the Monterey, Calif., area, the San Diego Union-Tribune said.
Llanos is a patrol officer and eight-year veteran of the Soledad Police Department in Monterey County. Matos was identified as a civilian police sergeant at the Presidio of Monterey, an Army installation.
A U.S. consular official in Tijuana said the men could get 20 years in prison on a variety of charges.
