MLB: N.Y. Mets 5, San Diego 3
NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- David Wright's two out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday gave the New York Mets a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres.
Wright's third hit of the contest and 21st homer this season bailed out reliever Scott Schoenweis, who yielded a game-tying solo homer to Jody Gerut in the top of the ninth.
Starter Johan Santana had given up two earned runs and only four hits in seven innings with three walks and seven strikeouts before the Padres tied the score 3-3 on Gerut's blast.
Nick Evans hit a two-run fourth inning single.
Dan Murphy had two hits and one RBI and Carlos Beltran added three hits in the Mets' second victory in the three-game series.
Winner Aaron Heilman (2-6) struck out one of the two batters he faced in the ninth.
The Padres' Chase Headley hit a solo homer and Adrian Gonzalez also had one RBI.
The losing pitcher was Heath Bell (6-5).
